Summer 2010
Sustain continues to participate in a number of relevant initiatives, specifically:
- Jeanette Longfield (coordinator of Sustain) is now a trustee of the Progressive Farming Trust (Organic Research Centre – Elm Farm), and attended the event on 24 May where Prince Charles opened their new conference centre.
- Kath Dalmeny (policy director of Sustain) contributed to the final report and recommendations of the Conservative Party Public Sector Food Procurement Taskforce, which were submitted to Defra in May. Details of Sustain's work pursuing new rules for sustainable procurement of food in public sector organisations can be found on the separate Good Food for Our Money campaign pages.
- Jeanette attended her first Pesticides Forum meeting on 23 June, which discussed, inter alia, pesticide packaging.
- Jeanette spoke at Sandwell Health’s Other Economic Summit, on 24 June about the UK policy context for sustainable food and farming, at the invitation of the National Heart Forum.
- Kath has recently been appointed to the London Food Board Executive, which has been undertaking a useful review of its strategy and implementation projects.
- Anne Dolamore, Sustain's Chair, continues as deputy chair of the London Food Board.
- Jeanette will be involved in the editorial process for a report, funded by Compassion in World Farming, setting out the case for ending the routine use of antibiotics in farmed animals.
Information about Sustain's work on sustainable fish can be seen on a separate page.
