Great Taste Real Bread winners

Campaign supporters are the toast of the town.

Of 14,113 products entered in the Great Taste Awards 2021, only 218 received a Great Taste 3-star award. The organisers state that these are: ‘extraordinarily tasty foods – less than 2% of products are awarded a 3-star each year – don’t leave the shop without buying it!’

This year’s 3-star recipients included these Real Bread Campaign supporters:

  • Karaway - fruity rye
  • Rye Bakery - croissants
  • Wessex Mill - tomato and garlic bread flour, and six seed bread flour

Judges awarded a Great Taste 2-star to 1,138 products for being ‘above and beyond delicious.’ They included these Real Bread Campaign supporters:

  • Felin Talgarth – Five types of flour
  • Karaway – Grandmother’s Bread, and Pumpkin Bread
  • Seasons Bakery - Rosemary and Raisin sourdough
  • Shipton Mill – Six types of flour
  • Wessex Mill – Five types of flour

Many more Campaign supporters created products that were amongst the 4,027 awarded a Great Taste 1-star for ‘delivering fantastic flavour.’

Real Bread Campaign coordinator Chris Young, who was one of 355 judges involved in one or more of the 86 days of blind tasting, said: “Well done to every Campaign supporter, and all of those other Real Bread bakers and additive-free millers, who received Great Taste Awards. Extra congratulations go to each of those who picked up 3-star awards, meaning that several tables of judges had to agree that the product deserved it.”

The full lists of awards can be found on the Great Taste Awards website.

Great Taste 3-star award-winning products will be tasted again to select regional Golden Fork Trophy winners and the Great Taste Supreme Champion 2021, which will be announced on Sunday 17 October
