New campaign to End Hunger in the UK

Sustain is part of the campaign to End Hunger in the UK. It starts with a Big Conversation, going on across the UK until March 2017. Individuals, food banks, food projects, local food networks and others are all invited to join in the Conversation and ask the question: What does our government need to do to End Hunger in the UK?

How can I get involved?

1. Hold your own Big Conversation event. It can be a forum, a coffee morning or an informal gathering. It could be at a church, a food bank, another food project, or any other venue. Ask everyone at your event to write their answer to the Big Conversation question on a paper plate, and post a picture of them holding it on social media using the hashtag #EndHungerUK. Send all your plates to your local MP and invite them to step up to the plate as well. Click here to get started!

2. Step up to the Plate yourself. Take your own paper plate selfie, share it on social media, and show your support for the campaign, using the hashtag #EndHungerUK

When should I do it?

We are asking you to join the Big Conversation any time between October 2016 and March 2017 to add your voice to our national call for action.

Simon Shaw
Former Head of Food Poverty Programme for the Food Power. Simon Shaw has now left Sustain.

Simon coordinated Food Power, a four-year programme supporting food poverty alliances to tackle food poverty in their areas. The programme focused on highlighting and encouraging sustainable responses to food poverty, particularly where they address the root causes of food poverty.

Simon also instigated and managed Sustain's Meals on Wheels campaign, which aimed to secure the policies and services that would support thousands of older people every day to stay independent in their own homes and enrich their lives.

Prior to working at Sustain, Simon was the lead officer for the London Assembly’s Zero Hunger City investigation into food poverty in the capital. Simon has also held a number of roles in the third and public sector, working to influence policy and practice in a range of areas, including inequality and poverty, disability and ageing, health and social care, social security, and employment and skills. Simon has a BA from the University of Cambridge (French and Italian).
