Chips must help save seeds, President tells food industry

No-drama Obama stays calm as he confirms that anthropogenic climate change threatens global food security, and requires urgent action by food enrepreneurs and innovators.

In one of his first public appearances since he left office, former US President Barack Obama has addressed the Seeds and Chips global food and innovation summit in Milan. His message was that climate change poses a major threat to food security, and that entrepreneurs, scientists and the food industry must act to mitigate the consequences.

Citing past human achievements, he said he was confident that human resourcefulness would be able to solve the biggest problem humanity has ever created. With characteristic understatement, he recognised that there was likely to be 'some disruption'. An important step, he said, was to help small and medium-scale farmers to adopt new technologies.
