Courtauld 2025: reducing the resources needed for food

Courtauld 2025 is a voluntary agreement for the whole food chain that aims to reduce the resources needed to provide food and drink by one-fifth in 10 years. There is still time to sign up or join the Steering Group, prior to launch on 15 March.

WRAP -- the organisation dedicated to reducing resource use -- is preparing to launch Courtauld 2025, a voluntary agreement that aims to bring together organisations from across the food system – from producer to consumer – to make food and drink production and consumption more sustainable.

The goal is to cut the resources needed to provide food & drink by one-fifth in ten years. The targeted overall outcomes from 2015 to 2025, calculated as a relative reduction per head of population, are:

  • 20% reduction in food & drink waste arising in the UK.
  • 20% reduction in the GHG intensity of food & drink consumed in the UK.
  • A reduction in impact associated with water use in the supply chain.

The launch date is 15 March. There is still time for organisations to sign up and receive a Communications Toolkit with information on how to participate in the launch. Wrap is also seeking organisations interested in joining the Courtauld 2025 Steering Group, which will provide strategic direction for the Commitment and its various activities. Anyone interested should contact Elaine.charlesworth@wrap.org.uk.
