Soil Association demands that Defra protect our soil

Soil Association calls for action in UN's International Year of Soils.

The letter pointed out that protection for our soil would safeguard food production, increase resilience to drought and flooding and improve wildlife habitats. Browning added that the most recent Countryside Survey report on Soils - conducted in 2007 - showed a clear trend of declining soil carbon in the arable & horticultural soils of Great Britain.
