SUGAR SMART Durham launched 10th July with a number of partners across sectors leading the way to reduce overconsumption of sugar across County Durham.
The campaign, led by Food Durham, has hit the ground running by recruiting a broad spectrum of businesses and organisations to make SUGAR SMART pledges. Participants include Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust, Durham University, Durham County Council, and the Claypath Deli, among others, championing the cause to support residents to lead healthier lives.
SUGAR SMART Durham is supporting a variety of local actions such as recipe reformulations, healthier vending machines, school assemblies, and including SUGAR SMART targets into the county’s food policies. The campaign has also launched a Community Survey to gather views on the impacts of sugar on the county’s residents, and the changes people want to see to make County Durham healthier.
SUGAR SMART was launched alongside Active Durham, a framework to increase physical activity across the county, as both are working to address the high levels of obesity among children and adults, and to make it easier for residents to lead healthy, happy lives.
