SACN (the UK government's Scientific Advisory Committee on Nutrition) have published their draft report on Vitamin D and Health for public consultation.
Our main supply of Vitamin D is from the sun with some also coming from our diet. However there have been concerns that the UK population are at risk of low vitamin D status, with Marks and Spencer recently adding Vitamin D to its packaged bread. In their draft report SACN are proposing a national intake of 10 micrograms a day and suggest we consider strategies for the UK population to achieve this. You can access the report and send responses to the consultation to scan@phe.gov.uk. The consultation closes on the 23rd September 2015.
