Are pulses an answer to our global food challenges?

2016 is the UN’s International Year of Pulses, and the UN say eating more pulses such as chick peas, lentils and dried peas could help address global food issues. 

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said: "Pulses can contribute significantly in addressing hunger, food security, malnutrition, environmental challenges and human health”. Pulses are relatively water efficient and their production emits only 5% of the greenhouse gas emissions associated with beef production. Take a look at Sustain's top tips to eat more sustainably.
