6 Ways To Support London’s Urban Farming Revolution

Every day London's Urban Farmers and Growers face the challenges of the seasons as well as pressure on land. And for those trying to make a living growing food, they have the added competition of cheap food as a result of our broken food system.

Urban Food Fortnight celebrates and supports urban farmers and growers to thrive in our city and there are a number of ways you can get involved

1. Drop into an edible community garden: Capital Growth’s Urban Harvest has curated 16 edible gardens, who will throw open their gates during the fortnight for you to learn, taste and tour these incredible and often hidden gardens.
2. Dine on a meal grown in the city: support the restaurants who are sourcing locally – people like OXO Tower who have paired with Sutton Farm to create a very special meal, and Sodo Pizza who buy from Growing Communities and other local producers.
3. Talk to an Urban Farmer: join the #FoodTalks at Kings Cross Impact Hub (27 Sept) to hear from Urban Farmer, Alice Holden, about how we reconnect through farming in urban areas, and the success of the Growing Communities Dagenham Farm.
4. Learn how to grow your own: whether you have a window box or are looking to experiment with an edible terrarium there is a class for you.
5. Visit a farm for dinner: Join one of the unique supperclubs taking place in growing spaces – Crop Drop will host a meal in the glasshouse at Wolves Lane (26 Sept), and Enfield has a feast on Forty Hall Farm (5 Oct).
6. And if you really get the bug….find out more about life as an urban farmer with Lessons from the field: a visit and workshop at Keat’s Organics on 5^th October. Booking essential.
