Defra launches open data project

Defra has announced plans to release vast data reserves to 'transform the world of food and farming'.

More than 8000 datasets will be made freely available to the public and Defra say they will include real-time air quality and river level readings as well as the records of the National Biodiversity Network and satellite data which assesses the health of crops and soil quality.

Sustain's Acting Policy Director Vicki Hird said: “It's good to see Defra making this data available to all – such information is golddust and we hope it will be used to work towards a more resilient, healthy, nature friendly food system which will support more and better jobs in rural areas.” Find out more about Sustain's Food and Farming Policy work.
