Doctors want government action on obesity

Doctors at the British Medical Association annual conference have debated obesity in Scotland and called for more government action.

Noting that around 25% of men and 29% of women in Scotland are obese, the BMA conference estimated that overweight and obesity combined could be costing NHS Scotland as much as £600 million. They were concerned that welfare cuts could exacerbate the problem and called for a more co-ordinated, long term approach, and a new obesity Tsar.
